Why Kenya will continue to borrow. Why Trump Kim Summit unruffled markets Not. Morocco needs to petition St. Anthony

The Singapore summit…
So hard to characterize the Kim Jong Un and Trump meeting that happened on 12th  June.
at the Sentosa island. It is a good thing in a wholesome way considering the open hostilities
that has existed between the two nations for so long. It is worth noting that, Kim may have
attained a very coveted win. For the US to come to a table and share concerns in itself is
key achievement. Trump has done a really good turn for humanity. The world didn't expect
much from Trump especially diplomacy wise. Politics and war twine all through history.
Humanity may suffer because of it. The Korean Peninsula has been in the news for so
long because of matters denuclearization. The deal signed between Trump and Kim remains
scanty in details. The world was eager mostly for the details so as to ascertain how credible
the deal was. The US had called off the talks earlier in the year and sent shivers of disappointment
across the globe. So the first round of talks hold so much collective optimism for peace lovers
even though what exactly entails denuclearization remains elusively mysterious. The fact that the
handshake did not unruffle financial markets points to the nature in which Pyongyang has dealt with Washington in the past. Back and forth. After the end we go back to the beginning.
Traders who were keen to ride the waves were so much disappointed.
But how would such a meeting have impacted the markets?
The answer might be found in the organization of the economy of North Korea,
whose secretive nature, sometimes forces analysts to gauge economic activity
by how much smoke fumes from chimneys.

The World Cup football…
It’s a good time to be alive. It feels good to have adrenaline touch high nerves from
a vicarious activity such as watching a good game of football. The first round of games
has brought in a lot of “unexpected” outcomes. This points to a truly man made game.
I hope the people of Morocco have already petitioned St. Anthony to help them retrieve
their fortune. As a football enthusiast, I decline to refer to the perfect header by a Moroccan
into their own net as an own goal. What if the precision of the free kick was such that it left
no room for Aziz Bouhaddouz to the effect that any movement on his part would have been
disastrous? Many own goals take some time to be celebrated by the benefiting team unlike
what happened in Krestovsky stadium. The Iranians celebrated the goal immediately.
I have a personal wish of seeing people around the world follow the football buzz without
much booze. Football is complete just that way. I love bare football. The game itself.
Strategies that win and those which lose. That is what pushes me to the edge of the seat.
I find that there will be a surprise winner of this 2018 World cup.
Russia has made the feel of World Cup
football so fresh and colourful.

East Africa reads her budget ….
The cities of Nairobi, Kampala, Kigali and Dodoma this week listened to the budgets
of their respective countries. All Our East African countries have projected their economic
growth to be above 5%. Kenya projects to grow by at least 5.8% this fiscal year.
The Finance Secretary Henry Rotich presented a budget estimate of about $30B in Nairobi
on Thursday. Kenya’s budget has exponentially grown over the years. Definitely this will
require borrowing since revenue collections do not come anywhere close to that.
With government claiming to have cut down the deficit considerably,
it will be interesting to see what creativity will be deployed to manage the economy
to create the much needed jobs as well as render essential services to the citizens.
Surprisingly, the budgets of Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda combined cannot outweigh that of
Kenya alone. A huge chunk of Kenya’s budget will definitely go towards servicing debt.
For this reason, it will require government to keep borrowing in order to remain on track
regarding development as ambitiously forecasted. Corruption having received broad media
coverage in recent days it will be of interest to see how the Kenyan treasury manages
to keep unscrupulous civil servants from stealing revenues.
A critical punch of the Rotich’s budget is the increase of taxation on mobile money
transactions. The pinch of it will be felt across the population because such services
have become the only bank for ordinary citizens.

The Muslim faithfuls around the world have now completed the all fulfilling Ramadhan,
dawn to dusk month of fasting. May all who believe sustain the spirit of submission
to God’s will.

Gladys Shollei's Proposal is the Best we have

No more than two thirds of members of any elective or appointive positions shall be  of the same gender. So forbids Constitutuition of Kenya 2010. The third gender rule as it is mostly referred to, has continued to get a ping pong in parliament, which is itself a target  of this provision. Kenyan parliament remains dominated by men since 1963. There have been efforts to realize this legal requirement in the past. Most notably,  towards the general election of 2017. The majority leader in the National Assembly Mr.Aden   Duale tried his best but a greater portion of legislators were reluctant to support him. Perhaps the timing was wrong and members thought that the act was likely to affect their  personal ambitions. The  women representative of Uasin Gishu, Gladys Boss Shollei publicized her intent to table  a bill in Parliament to fix the gender rule issue with finality. For many months now, the leadership  of parli...

A Look at opposition Politics in East Africa

The beauty of democracy surely lies in vibrant opposition politics! No running away from this open secret. opposition is an integral part in the running of public affairs within a democracy. Opposition represents alternative government or a government in waiting. To prove their mettle, such a party must always project counter policies as well valuable criticism to the government of the day. So what dulls so much the politics of East Africa? The killing of opposition in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The year 2017 was of great political turmoil in Kenya. A greater chunk of political parties united to front a single presidential bid under National Super Alliance (NASA), and this union was indeed a threat to the ruling party Jubilee. Methinks, one of the strategies of winning the election that year was to weaken the opposition by all means. NASA supporters were mostly branded as violent  and thereby justifying setting the police upon them at the slightest attempt to pro...
